The year 2016 is ending pretty soon. But we’ve already seen many platforms based on modern technology stacks coming into the picture. We’re reviewing our list of top 10 ecommerce platforms 2017 that would reflect the changing times.
1. Prime Fusion (Check Here)
Prime Fusion made it to our list of top 10 ecommerce platforms 2017 because of it’s elegance and it’s power packed features. Currently, it is one platform that is out of the box business ready. Prime Fusion is based on the MEAN stack technology and offers a suite of features that match Magento’s enterprise version with some additional features that go beyond it to a certain extent. Also, the scalability is a driving factor to use a platform like Prime Fusion. It is also a hosted solution which means you aren’t governed by any third party store rules and have complete control over your stores and revenue. 2. Reaction Commerce (Check Here)
Reaction Commerce is an open source Meteor and Reactjs based eCommerce platform. They recently got $2 Million in funding from Cross Cut ventures, Double M, BBG Ventures and Female Founders Fund. Reaction commerce boasts of features like real-time editing of pages, search capabilities, Paypal & stripe integration. Some important features like Multi-tenant marketplace, Multi-Vendor, ability to add digital products etc are not available. 3. WooCommerce (Check Here)
Woocommerce is a WordPress based eCommerce plugin, because of its growing popularity and it’s ease of use, it was widely adopted by enthusiasts and some businesses. Woo Commerce is based on PHP and it does have some limitations. On the product side, though the base product is free, the modules available for it are quite expensive. WooCommerce was acquired by WordPress recently to strengthen their ecommerce strategy in the long run.
4. Magento (Check Here)
Magento is one of the oldest available eCommerce platform based on which a lot of premier shops were made available. Magento is part open source and part enterprise ecommerce solution. Magento is based on PHP and SQL, since it’s been available for a longtime, it hasn’t been ported to a modern technology stack platform. Though the open source version is free, the enterprise version is more powerful and expensive. The modules and themes available for Magento are also expensive, it isn’t viable for all businesses.
5. Prestashop (Check Here)
Prestashop is an open source platform that runs on PHP. Prestashop was founded by Igor Schlumberger and Bruno Lévêque as a student project in 2005 that went on to become Prestashop. The eCommerce platform has more than 300 features like, Order management, analytics, inventory management etc which are essential ecommerce functionalities. There are quite a few templates for prestashop, which maybe seen as a deterrent for some. We added Prestashop to our Top 10 ecommerce platforms 2017 list, because of the fact that it was one of the few respected ecommerce platform since 2007.
6. Shopify (Check Here)
Shopify is a hosted solution, started by Scott Lake, Daniel Weinand and Tobias Lütke. Shopify went on to become one of the easy to use hosted store fronts available. Shopify has made available many paid and free integrations that its sellers can use to enhance their customers experience and manage their stores efficiently. Shopify also bought KITCRM, a ecommerce marketing bot that shop owners can integrate to automate their sales and marketing efforts.
7. Lemonstand (Check HERE)
Lemonstand is a cloud ecommerce platform, run by a Vancouver based company. Lemonstand is based on modern stack technology and is hosted, with availability of APIs to build features on to it, if you think about extending it. Lemonstand has flexible pricing modules, CMS and blog features are integrated, most of the dev-ops part is taken care of by the Lemonstand. Since it has very few themes available in the market, you’ll have to hire a developer / designer to create a template for your store. 8. BigCommerce (Check HERE)
BigCommerce is a hosted eCommerce solution that powers a significant amount of stores online. It was founded by Eddie Machalaani and Mitchell Harper in the year 2009. BigCommerce boasts of 95,000+ stores on their platform. They also allow use of apps built specifically for their platform. Templates for the Bigcommerce platform are quite expensive and it can be a hurdle to get started right away. Bigcommerce is on the 8th position on our top 10 ecommerce platforms 2017 list. 9. Squarespace eCommerce (Check HERE)
Squarespace offers a hosted eCommerce platform, that let’s people start their online store. Squarespace started out as a website builder platform and their foray into eCommerce in the recent years have got them quite a good number of customers. The themes on square space are limited and minimal mostly. It won’t be possible to start a multi-vendor store using their platform. Squarespace is on the 9th place on our top 10 ecommerce platforms 2017 list.
10. Wix eCommerce (Check HERE)
Wix is primarily a flash-based website builder platform, with the changing trends on the internet they recently changed their technology and added ecommerce functionality. Wix has basic ecommerce features that will let you start a store swiftly. Themes for Wix are limited, and are pretty basic. If you have a small business that just needs a basic store, wix is your thing. Although there are other platforms that let you do the same and are much cheaper or free and awesome. Wix is on the tenth place on our Top 10 ecommerce platforms 2017 list.
